Soak in Sandy Point State Park

45 minute drive from Baltimore

If you’re looking for a quick road trip from Baltimore, Sandy Point State Park is just under an hour away on the western shores of the Chesapeake. This small but scenic state park is most popular for its swimming beach and is also a great spot to fish and catch some of Maryland’s signature Blue Crabs. A thousand yards out to sea sits the historic Sandy Point Shoal Lighthouse, a cute, squat, three-story brick tower that’s over 100 years old.

Relive the Old Days in St. Mary’s City

2 hour drive from Baltimore

Take a scenic drive down the Chesapeake on 4-South to St. Mary’s City, one of the oldest colonial settlements in the United States. Considered the birthplace of religious freedom, St. Mary’s City is home to its namesake college, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, as well as a historic reconstruction of the original colonial village. This beautiful and quaint village is an excellent way to step back in time and see how European settlers lived their daily lives. Actors dressed in period costumes play the part of early townspeople to educate and demonstrate to visitors how early Americans made their living.
